This is the latest record from Miguel Angel Villanueva. Though it’s the first one released under his own name, he’s been making music and releasing records since quite a while behind names like Los Autenticos (a real legend in spanish 80s pop) and Los Brujos all through the 90s.
All this, together with seldom and surprising live appearances, steady press following, and a musical strength beyond reason, has been building up a character that, usually away from social life and fashion changes, is nowadays having the highest praise and respect from critics and enjoyers of emotional and precise pop songs.
Now, after a long and surrealistic breeding, connecting London, Benicasim and Murcia, is finally released the little big new collection of songs from Miguel Angel Villanueva. A record that, as expected, contains beautiful songs with a quite uncommon sense of melody. Songs where imagination is not at odds with catchy melody lines. Songs where lyrics get away from the typical topics of the genre and stand up in their own right without any music.
Andy Morten on drums and Louis Wiggett on bass, both from british band Bronco Bullfrog, are providing the rhythm section. The strings and wind arrangements were once again made by the legendary Peter Dello, from 60s band Honeybus, and writer of eternal songs like “I Can’t Let Maggie Go” or “Do I Still Figure In Your Life”. Peter also wrote the english lyrics to three of the songs.
